In light of news that an unoccupied Volkswagen rolled backwards down a hill and went over a wall before coming to rest on a parked Fiat 500 in Glasgow, Confused.com’s Motoring Editor Amanda Stretton is reminding drivers to leave their vehicle parked safely when on a slope.
Amanda Stretton says: “The incident that occurred yesterday really could have ended in disaster. If you are parking on a hill, especially in wet weather, it is important to ensure you’ve parked in the appropriate gear and that your handbrake is up for complete security.
“If you are parking facing downhill make sure to turn your wheels towards the curb and park in reverse, whereas if you are facing uphill turn the wheels away from the curb (to the right) and leave it in 1st gear.”
