Amanda Stretton, motoring editor at Confused.com says: “Drivers will want to avoid driving on Saturday in particular, as this is likely to be the busiest day on UK roads, with an estimated 22.5 million cars* travelling on this day, according to our research. Those planning longer journeys should plan ahead and consider alternative routes that aren’t as popular, or likely to see as much traffic. This will free up the roads during busier times, reduce the risk of collisions and make the whole weekend a lot more comfortable for road users.”

*Nationally representative sample of 2,000 UK motorists who drive regularly. 56.26% are planning to travel on Saturday. UK driving population = 39,975,351 of which 56.26% is 22,490,133.
