8 YEAR FREEZE ON PETROL TAX COULD BE LIFTED
According to senior government sources, Theresa May and Chancellor Phillip Hammond plan to lift the fuel duty freeze. Amanda Stretton, motoring editor at Confused.com comments:
“Drivers will be hit in the pocket yet again if the freeze on fuel duty is lifted in the next autumn budget. Prices at the pumps recently hit the most expensive recorded in 18 months according to the fuel price index.
“Paying for fuel is part and parcel of owning a car but the government could end up pricing drivers off the roads if they continue to be penalised.
“To save money, motorists should concentrate on making their cars more fuel efficient by driving at lower speeds, accelerating gradually and avoiding over-revving. They will also need to be savvy and shop around for the cheapest petrol prices in their area using our fuel price comparison service.”
