CHILDREN INSIDE CARS EXPOSED TO POLLUTION
A new study released today reveals that children are 30% more exposed to car fumes than adults because ‘they are shorter’. Amanda Stretton, motoring editor at Confused.com comments:
“It is no secret that some vehicles on our roads are having a detrimental effect on air pollution. But what is worrying is the effect that it is having on our younger generation. It’s no wonder our research found that more than a third (34%) of motorists would like to see the most polluting vehicles banned from highly populated areas.
“But this goes to show it's more important than ever to reduce polluting vehicles in city centres, and we have explored the idea of major UK cities going ‘car-free’ in the next 20 years in our carless cities report.
“It’s great to see that more than half (55%) of motorists are already doing their bit by walking where possible. However, those who have no choice but to drive could try leaving slightly earlier or plan an alternative, less congested route using the back roads.”
