Comment: Surcharge plan on parking permits for diesel cars in Edinburgh
City of Edinburgh Council have begun a consultation on a proposal to apply a surcharge on parking permits issued to owners of diesel vehicles. Motoring editor at Confused.com comments:
“Drivers could yet again be slammed with even more motoring costs and price increases. The proposal, if implemented, would sting thousands of diesel vehicle owners with parking permits in Edinburgh.
“While many drivers support initiatives to improve the UK’s poor air quality, the cost is likely to frustrate motorists who are fed up with bearing the brunt of these costs.
“Drivers would welcome any initiatives to reduce these costs, including a nationwide scrappage scheme, which could make it cheaper and easier for motorists with older diesel cars to avoid the hefty costs. We encourage all drivers to shop around at Confused.com to minimise motoring costs where possible.”
