Interview/Comment: One million motorists are on the road illegally with bad vision
It has today been announced that experts are urging drivers to have an eye test every ten years. Amanda Stretton, motoring editor at Confused.com comments:
“It’s shocking that over one million drivers are on the road illegally with bad vision. Our research shows over 9,000 drivers had their license revoked or application refused by the DVLA last year (2016) as their eyesight did not meet required standards.
“It’s no wonder over half (55%) of drivers agree with expert opinion and think all motorists should be legally required to have regular eye tests. Without the correct prescription, motorists may have trouble judging distance, depth and could miss cars, cyclists and pedestrians in their wider field. Many opticians offer free tests for first-time customers.
“Drivers with an eye condition should always notify their insurer to ensure they are covered should they need to make a claim. Motorists who are concerned about the impact an eye condition could have on the price of their car insurance premiums should shop around online using a driver savings site, such as Confused.com.”
