INTERVIEW/ COMMENT: WARNING TO ROAD USERS AS STORM AILEEN HITS THE UK
With Storm Aileen's winds as strong as 74mph hitting the UK this week, Amanda Stretton, motoring editor at Confused.com advises drivers how to avoid any disruptions.
“With predictions of high winds hitting the UK this week, we’re urging motorists to take extra care when driving and plan ahead to deal with the severe weather. Drivers should aim to leave home slightly earlier to ensure that they don’t encounter further rush hour disruption.
“As we all know, weather can be unpredictable and turn quickly, so if you do have to travel it’s very important to keep your speed down and make sure there’s enough distance between you and other vehicles. Lorries and cyclists should be extra cautious in strong winds with an increased risk of being blown over.
“Being more vigilant in bad conditions will help drivers avoid a breakdown and more importantly any accidents which could result in increased premiums. And drivers who might need to claim for weather damage, should be aware that they will only be covered with a comprehensive insurance policy, and not third party or third party, fire and theft (TPFP) policies.”
