INTERVIEW / COMMENT: YOUNG DRIVERS CAN SAVE UP TO £2,340 USING BLACK BOX TELEMATICS
Research released today has revealed that since the introduction of the black box telematics seven years ago, the number of deaths and serious injuries among 17-24 year olds has fallen by 25%. Amanda Stretton, motoring editor at Confused.com, comments:
It is great to see that black boxes are helping to improve the safety for younger motorists on our roads. It seems that by monitoring young drivers’ habits such as speed, braking, and cornering, they are more cautious behind the wheel.
Black boxes were introduced to help to bring down the extortionate cost of car insurance for young drivers. Our research shows that 17-20 year old drivers can save up to £2,340 on their insurance premiums using a telematics box, compared to £392 for 27-29 year olds*.
Car insurance prices are at tipping point, so we encourage drivers to shop around for the best deals and consider using a black box to minimise the ever increasing motoring costs. And it’s an added bonus that they improve the standard and safety of driving in the process!
*This is based on where a telematics provider returned the best price, the gap between the best premium and the next best non telematics price, regardless of rank.
