Motorway roadworks speed limit could rise to 60mph on Sundays
Highways England have today announced plans to increase speed limits on motorways with roadworks on weekends. Amanda Stretton, motoring editor at Confused.com says:
“Roadworks cause long delays and never fail to frustrate drivers so it’s great to hear that Highways England are introducing an initiative to increase speed limits when motorways are less busy with traffic.
“However, we must be careful that the variable speed limits don’t confuse drivers. Our research shows that eight in 10 (78%) drivers caught speeding blame sudden changes in speed caused by variable smart motorway cameras.
“We’d advise drivers to research their route before heading out to take note of any areas where there may be drops in speed. Drivers can use our speeding fine calculator to look at how much they could expect to be charged from speeding at different speeds on the motorway. Those who do receive speeding tickets, risk increasing their insurance premiums and should consider shopping around and comparing prices online.”
