NEW DRINK-DRIVE INSTANT BREATHALYSERS INTRODUCED
GOV.UK have today announced that drink drivers face swifter justice with new roadside breathalysers. Amanda Stretton, motoring editor at Confused.com comments:
“The new breathalyser technology is a positive step towards clamping down on drink-driving and will enable police to have more concrete on-the-spot evidence to charge drivers who are over the legal alcohol limit. And our research shows that drink-driving is an offence that is still plaguing our roads, with more than 31,000 drivers failing roadside breath tests in 2017*.
“Drink-driving can seriously impact the safety of our roads and put other road users at risk. Not only this, but it can land motorists with a fine, or even a driving ban, which can have a negative impact on their car insurance premiums.
“We strongly advise motorists to ensure their body is free from alcohol before jumping behind the wheel, especially the following morning. Drivers can use our morning after calculator for an indication of when alcohol should have left the body to eliminate the slightest chance they might still be over the limit.”
