Jennifer Millins, Mishcon de Reya's Employment Partner representing Carrie Gracie and other BBC women in their fight for equal pay, comments on new statistics released today by the Equality and Human Rights Commission:

"Hot on the heels of the Sex Discrimination Law Review, statistics published by the Equality and Human Rights Commission today provides further evidence of the disadvantage and discrimination suffered by many women in the workplace, particularly those who are pregnant or those with young children.

"While some changes to the law are recommended in the Review, it is clear that conscious and unconscious bias remain a significant obstacle and that a cultural shift is required to address gender inequality.

"Employers who embrace diversity have been shown to be more profitable so, leaving aside the law, it makes business sense to take steps to eliminate discrimination and bias."
