Waze Joins SmartDeviceLink Consortium to Optimize and Evolve the Driving Experience
The Free, Real-Time Traffic and Navigation App Will Soon Bring
Drivers a Seamless In-Car Navigation Experience; Demos Provided at Mobile World Congress
[February 27, 2017]; Barcelona – Waze, the free, real-time crowdsourced traffic and navigation app powered by the world’s largest community of 75 million monthly active drivers, today joins the SmartDeviceLink (SDL) Consortium comprised of Ford, Toyota, Mazda, Subaru, PSA and Suzuki. Waze’s upcoming in-car navigation experience will be available for demo at Mobile World Congress 2017 in the SDL booth (Hall 1, Stand 1A38).
With the integration of SDL, Waze continues to put the driver community at the forefront focusing on optimizing and evolving the driver experience. As an innovator in the transportation industry, Waze has joined the SDL Consortium in order to better serve drivers everywhere and create an intuitive navigation experience. With SDL, Waze guidance can be presented in the in-car driver screen and new features are made available as soon as they are released in the app.
“Together, Waze and the SDL Consortium are providing the best navigation for drivers through a seamless in-car navigation experience right in your car’s console,” said Jens Baron, Waze In-Car Applications Product Lead. “Through our SDL partnerships, drivers will automatically get the most updated version of Waze, including new features and design releases, so drivers are getting the same experience as they would on their phone.”
First announced in January 2017 by Ford Motor Company and Toyota Motor Company, the SDL Consortium is a nonprofit organization working to manage an open source software platform with the goal of giving consumers more choice in how they connect and control their smartphone apps on the road.
“Waze is a perfect example of how SDL makes it easy for developers to bring new and exciting apps to the dashboard,” said Doug VanDagens, chairman of SmartDeviceLink Consortium. “We are excited to have Waze as part of the SDLC and look forward to working with them to move this open standard forward.”
