Visa and House of Holland give wearables a VIP spot at London Fashion Week

Henry Holland and Visa Europe Collab put wearable payment technology centre-stage at the House of Holland Spring/Summer 2016 showcase

London, U.K. – Saturday 19 September 2015 – Tonight Visa Europe Collab and top British designer Henry Holland have raised the bar for wearables and payments. The House of Holland catwalk showcased the culmination of a summer-long partnership to bring fashion, form and frictionless payments together to create a unique experience at London Fashion Week.

Over the past 100 days, Visa Europe Collab – the payments provider’s Shoreditch-based innovation lab - has been collaborating with Henry and a handpicked team of craftspeople, artisans and technology providers to redraw the boundaries of payments and fashion retail and explore an entirely new way to pay.

Front-row VIP guests attending the House of Holland show during London Fashion Week were invited to make a ‘purchase’ directly from Henry’s collection as it was being modelled on the catwalk. VIPs were given a Henry Holland-designed ring – specially created just for the event – featuring integrated NFC (near field communication).

A number of pieces from the House of Holland collection incorporated a beautifully designed payment receiver tag linked via Bluetooth Smart technology to a virtualised terminal and the power of Visa’s payment network. This technology offered the VIPs a unique opportunity to interact with the show in a way that’s never been seen before. All they had to do was hold their ring close to the tag on the item they wanted to purchase and the payment was made instantly. Details of the transaction was immediately relayed backstage, where their item was bagged up and handed to them as they left the show.

“Henry is one of his generation’s most creative designers. He’s always looking to push the fashion boundaries with his irreverent style and frequently looks to technology as a key element in his creations,” explained Steve Perry, founder and co-creator, Visa Europe Collab. “Our goal in this partnership was to also push the boundaries of payments and the retail experience – to produce something beautiful and desirable yet also with a very practical and functional purpose – and try it out in a spectacular setting.”

“Working together so closely with Visa Europe Collab’s creative and technological minds has been an amazing experience,” said Henry Holland. “We have incorporated some key motifs and designs from the House of Holland Spring/Summer 2016 collection, integrated payment technologies into them and in this showcase created a brand new type of retail experience. By making the payment a more seamless element within the emotion of my catwalk show, I believe we’ve offered a glimpse into what the future of fashion retail may hold.”
